Studio A

Four distinct recording environments centered around a meticulously restored and maintained Vintage Sphere Eclipse C Console.

Studio A is the larger of our two studios. Fully wheelchair accessible with four performance rooms, a private kitchen, washroom, and overnight accommodations.

Control Room A

Control room A is a spacious 535 sq ft, with a flat response across all frequencies.

The room and monitoring setup are designed to accurately reflect the recorded source(s) while comfortably accommodating large groups for playback and mixing. Control Room A also maintains sightlines with every performance space.

Control A is built around an incredible sounding and flexible 32 ch vintage Sphere Eclipse C.

Every one of Studio A’s recording environments are connected with mic, speaker and instrument tie lines so amps, speakers, instruments and musicians can all play together in any combination of locations in perfect isolation. Our analog Mytek headphone stations and flexible console routing allow each performer to create their own custom headphone mix, independent of the engineer/producer.

Both a Studer A827 Gold Edition 24 track tape machine and an ATR 102 2 track tape machine with extra frequency response heads live in Studio A, with three more in the basement in case one should need repair. Studio A can also accommodate an additional 62 lines of outboard with our patchbay connected tie-in panels, dang!

Studio A can handle sessions that are fully digital, fully analog, and anywhere in between. Performances can be recorded to tape and digital simultaneously, or bounced back and forth through our Burl converters with the simple switch of a cable. Our 2020 Mac Pros have the best available specs and are loaded with Pro Tools Ultimate. Studio A’s computer also features 24 ch in 32 ch out on HDX cards with Burl Mothership converters. Logic Pro X, Reaper and a full suite of native and UAD plugins are installed in Control A as well.

In addition to the silent air exchange in Control A, the equipment racks have their own dedicated AC and ventilation, which aids in both preserving the equipment and increasing room ventilation.

Control Room A features ATC SCM150ASL PRO and Yamaha NS 10 monitors.

Live Room A

Live A is a 720 sq ft room-within-a-room, with floating concrete floors; acoustic barnwood wall treatment; 12ft isolated, insulated sawtooth ceilings; and is treated for an explosive yet controlled sound.

Obviously we’re biased but having listened to some of the best rooms in North America, Live A is our favorite rock drum recording space.

Don’t take our word for it though – book a tour and hear for yourself!

Live Room A2

Live A2 is a 255 sq ft room-within-a-room construction with a suspended, insulated and isolated ceiling; floating reclaimed Red Oak plank floor; acoustic art; cork; and, you guessed it… more reclaimed barnwood walls. The ceilings are also 12ft in height and sawtooth in design to eradicate any possible flutter echo.

Don’t let its relatively small footprint fool you though, Live A2 is acoustically coupled with a mirror image of itself in the basement. Using the latest in hole tech™ (lol) we’ve ported almost every room with its corresponding basement airspace. Why do this? Well…by porting the rooms, we allow bass frequencies – which often pile up and collapse in smaller rooms – a place to go and diffuse.

This results in exceptional bass frequency linearity and makes the room sound both larger and more controlled than it should! This room is also a favorite for drums, but really shines with vocals and acoustic guitar.

Last but not least, Live A2 features a full wall acoustic art diffuser by all around rad dude Chris Mott.

Dead Room A

Dead A is a 174 sq ft room with a floating floor; acoustic ports; room-within-a-room construction featuring a suspended, isolated, insulated ceiling; and limp membrane absorber and insulated walls.

To be more specific, it’s not actually dead - just acoustically dead… although it’s painted black so it does score some goth points. Despite the massive sliding glass acoustic doors and acoustic porting, it’s an extremely intimate sounding recording environment with next to no reverb…trapping all frequencies without prejudice. A favourite for sweet 70s drums – think Wire or Al Green. It’s also perfect for intimate vocals and guitar when you want a little more depth in sound than what an iso booth provides.

Iso Room A

Iso A is a 40.3 sq ft iso booth. Like Dead A, it is a room-within-a-room with a floating floor; limp membrane and insulated wall absorption; sightlines to every room in Studio A; and suspended and isolated ceiling.

It’s connected to Control Room A as well as Live A2 for convenience.

The kitchen/hallway/entrance is a 1200 sq ft space of large openings, nooks and sinewy hallways with tie lines to Control Room A. Add another 600 sq ft if you include the onsite accommodations/office and the washrooms, which are all located conveniently close to said tie lines.

Get weird and record anything, anywhere… go full Led Zep if you want and mic up the old freight elevator or even our massive garage with a 35ft vaulted ceiling. You only yolo once!
